Utah is facing a lawsuit claiming some of its recently passed immigration measures are unconstitutional.The Los Angeles Times reports that the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the National Immigration Law Center filed the lawsuit in federal court over HB 497. This law reportedly requires law enforcement agents to check the immigration status of those who are arrested for felonies or misdemeanors.Cecilia Wang with the ACLU said that such a measure infringes on peoples rights.”The statute violates everyones civil rights,” she told the news source. “The practical effect is that people will have to carry their ID with them at all times.”However, immigration advocates have applauded another bill that Utah recently approved.
